Meet the State Board Member: Mary Beth

Mary Beth hangs out with OMER at the 2016 World Finals at Iowa State University. She says, “Don’t be afraid to ‘fail’ – you may discover all sorts of interesting solutions!”

Mary Beth Adelman
NEPA Assistant Regional Director

Mary Beth has celebrated over 25 years with Odyssey of the Mind! Her tenure began as a judge/door watcher in 1997. The next year she began coaching, a stint that lasted 13 years with teams from the Abington Heights School District in Clarks Summit. During that time, Mary Beth joined the NEPA regional board as assistant regional director in 2004, and became the NEPA regional director in 2016.

“I’ve had the privilege to watch as students mature through the program,” she says, “and see the impact on their lives – their confidence and willingness to tackle any problem.”

Continuing to serve as the district coordinator at Abington Heights, Mary Beth has also been a judge and volunteer at World Finals. Here in Pennsylvania, she says her role is to participate in discussions and the decision-making process at state board meetings to “ultimately provide the best experience for the kids at the tournaments and throughout their Odyssey journeys.”

A graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, Mary Beth was a project lead at MetLife. In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors – hiking and canoeing. She also volunteers with her temple.
