The team’s solution
Our team conceived a presentation involving exchange students in a school for witches, a rhyming spell, a magic trick, and a game of “Truth or Dare” that could end the world! The team really committed to accents, witch costumes (including a “Sandwich”), and the construction of a very realistic looking rotating dorm-room set. A walker, an inchworm, and a hovercraft delivered materials to create a rocket to blast a letter into outer space to save the world before a big celebration dance number!
Building skills
In addition to some advanced artistic efforts to turn plastic signs and cardboard into stone and brick work, the team challenged itself to learn a compelling magic trick, and undertook some complex vehicle engineering involving gearing and precise walking mechanisms. Some tinkerers learned choreography for the first time, actors learned basic set-construction techniques, and builders soldered and used a drill press for the first time.
A message to fellow OMers
This has been a frustrating year for anyone who makes plans as it seems like our efforts were altered and reset on a daily basis throughout March and April. But, we kept emphasizing that all we could do was prepare to compete and be ready just in case. At some level, that’s all we can do in life.
